According to a note in Rudolf’s hand on an the old mount it was Professor van Altena who first made the attribution to Maes. The drawing was previously given to Jan Victors.

Sumowski places this drawing in the so-called ‘Pseudo Victors’ group (see long note of explanation on p.4259). They probably date from c.1653.
