This watercolour sketch was likely made in Egypt during George Frederic Watts’ honeymoon (1886-7) with his second wife, the artist Mary Seton Watts (née Fraser-Tytler). Mary wrote a vivid account of the trip in the second of her three volume publication about the artist, his work and his writings, George Frederic Watts: The annals of an artist's life (vols.1-2), His writings (vol. 3), 1912.
