    D. Mandrella, “Quelques nouveautés concernant Sébastien Bourdon (Montpellier 1616 – Paris 1671)”, in La Tribune de l’Art, Feb. 2007 (illustrated)

    Note:

In his catalogue raisonné of the works of Sébastien Bourdon, Jacques Thuillier records an engraving by François de Poilly after Bourdon, which reproduces the present drawing in the same sense. The painting to which both drawing and engraving correspond is now lost, but Thuillier has dated it stylistically to Bourdon’s late career, circa 1668. Thuillier evidently had no knowledge of the present drawing which only resurfaced from a private collection after the publication of the monograph. Following its discovery however, the attribution was endorsed by David Mandrella who first published it in his 2007 essay on new Bourdon findings.
