Note:
Born in Naples where his father was the Danish Consul, Carlo Dalgas was brought up in Copenhagen and studied at the Art Academy there from 1837. From 1843 he exhibited and in 1848 sold a work to the Royal Collection. That year he enlisted in the army and was called up to fight in the First Schleswig War. He was mortally wounded in the final battle of Møllhorst in December 1850.
