This drawing by Aurelio Luini depicts an old woman with a covered head, combining elements of the Leonardesque caricaturist tradition with Luini’s delicate handling of black chalk. Various sheets of head studies by Luini are known and Nicholas Turner compares the present drawing to the head of a man in the lower left of a sheet in the d’Arco collection, Mantua.
