    Note:

In terms of both subject matter and sentiment this tranquil study of a plaster cast of an anthemion is archetypal of late 19th century Scandinavian art. The drawing is signed by Svendsen to the lower right of the tablet and dated to 1878. A second signature to the upper left likely signifies the approval of Svendsen’s professor. The stamp at the centre top demonstrates that the drawing was executed at the Handværker Foreningens Tekniske Skole in Horsens, Denmark, where a drawing school had been established in 1857.
