    Description:

signed and dated (lower left): Olof Thuman 1943
    pen and black ink
    450 x 405 mm

    Note:

After studying at the University of Uppsala in the 1890s, Olof Thunman turned to the arts and enrolled at the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm, where he studied intermittently between 1902 and 1905. Although the central focus of his artistic output was graphic, he was equally active as a poet and composer of music. His debut collection of poetry was published in 1919 (Pan spelar: dikter) and a string of publications were released across his career. As here, certain works combined Thunman’s concurrent activities as draughtsman and poet, with illustrations produced to accompany the poems. The present sheet, drawn in Thunman’s late style, dates to the penultimate year of the artist’s life and depicts a young boy in a lamplit interior, reading before a clock.
