Note:
Nawab Bahadur was an honorary title bestowed to Indian Muslim individuals by the British Raj for faithful service or acts of public welfare. The bearded man depicted here is one such individual, possibly Nawab Sir Muhammad Bahadur Khanji III (1856–1892), who ruled the princely Junagarh (Jungadh) State between 1882 and 1892. Junagarh is today part of Gujarat, and it encloses the city of Baroda, which is cited in the inscription to the right of the drawing.
