Note:
This drawing is reminiscent of the Portrait of a Girl in the lightness and clarity of the hatching and the graphic quality of the face, which Jensen convincingly dates to the years 1822/4. The portrait of Reichsfreiherr vom Stein from 1821 is also similar in its depiction of clothing. The drawing shows Olivier’s closeness to the work of his friend Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, with whom he spent time from 1814 onwards. He is known to have travelled to Rome in 1818, working with Schnorr von Carolsfeld and Johann Friedrich Overbeck.
The style of clothing of "Peppi" is reminiscent of a sketch by Olivier, who captured the rural surroundings of Perchtolsdorf with peasant figures in 1815.
