This large finished study, squared for transfer, is for four of the figures in Ciro Ferri’s fresco of Paradise, with the Virgin Mary leading St Agnes before Christ to receive her Martyr’s Crown, in the cupola of the Pamphilj family church of S. Agnese in Agone, in the Piazza Navona, Rome, begun in 1670 but left incomplete on the artist’s death in 1689.
