    Note:

Long associated with the Bolognese school and the artists of the Accademia degli Incamminati, this attractive red chalk drawing has hitherto resisted definitive attribution. Originally given to Annibale Carracci, Nicholas Turner proposed an attribution to Annibale’s cousin Ludovico Carracci or to one his followers working in the second decade of the 17th century. Dr Clare Robertson suggested an attribution to Pietro Faccini (1562-1602), while Maria di Giampaolo proposed an attribution to Domenico Maria Canuti (1625-1684), an artist whose drawings have often been confused with those of Faccini.
